Now in its 25th year, American Music publishes articles on American composers, performers, publishers, institutions, events, and the music industry, as well as book and recording reviews, bibliographies, and discographies. Article topics have included the lyricism of Charles Ives, Henry Cowell's "sliding tones," Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti, Henry Brant's "Spatial Music," the reception and transformation of pop icons such as Presley and Sinatra, and the history and analysis of blues, jazz, folk music, and mixed and emerging musical styles.

Instructions to Authors
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS AND PUBLISHERS
Articles should be submitted in both hard copy and electronically to Michael Hicks, Editor, American Music, C-550 HFAC, Brigham Young University, Provo, UT 84602. Submissions should be made in both hard copy and electronically to michael_hicks@byu.edu. Please send three copies and a cover letter to the above address. File attachments should be in Microsoft Word or in rich text format. Use endnotes. Please note that except for originals of illustrative materials, submitted articles are not returned to authors. Submitted articles should be approximately 25 to 50 pages, double spaced.
The author's full name, mailing address, and e-mail address should appear only in the cover letter, as submissions are reviewed anonymously. Please ensure that your identity does not appear in running heads, references, or notes. Page numbers should appear at the top right of all pages after page 1. All parts of the article, including endnotes, quotations, song texts, bibliographies and discographies, appendices, and captions for illustrations, must be double spaced, printed on one side of the sheet only, on 8 by 11" paper with 1" margins. Music examples, figures, tables, and illustrations must be numbered and presented on separate sheets, with the desired location clearly indicated in the main text. Submissions not conforming with these instructions may be returned to the author for correction prior to consideration. In general, American Music follows the guidelines in the 15th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style.
Books for review should be addressed to Journals Division, University of Illinois Press, 1325 S Oak Street, Champaign, IL 61820. Reviewers should follow the instructions provided by the Book Review Editor.
Recordings for review should be addressed to Caroline Cepin Benser, 2407 Vine Street, La Crosse, WI 54601. Reviewers should follow the instructions provided by the Recording Review Editor.
Multimedia items for review (including videos, DVDs, etc.) should be addressed to Jennifer DeLapp Birkett, 2034 Glen Ross Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Reviewers should follow the instructions provided by the Multimedia Review Editor
