About the journal
The Eastern Buddhist carries articles on all aspects of Buddhism as well as English translations of classical Buddhist texts and works by modern Buddhist thinkers. This unique journal was begun in 1921 under the editorship of D.T.Suzuki. Although its publication was interrupted by World War Two, The Eastern Buddhist (New Series) was revived in 1965. After Suzuki's death in 1966, the journal was continued under the editorship of Nishitani Keiji (1900-1990), Abe Masao (1915-2006), and other scholars. From 1998 to 2005 Nagao Gadjin (1907-2005) served as the editor.

Submission
Guidelines for authors
Manuscripts submitted should not have been published previously or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. The main text should be double-spaced; footnotes and references are to be single-spaced. No right-hand margin justification necessary. Please refer to the stylesheet below for style and documentation. The Eastern Buddhist generally follows the style and format of The Chicago Manual of Style. Please refer to CMS for any questions not answered by the Style Sheet on this website. If a manuscript is a translation, submit the original text as well. A submission by a computer disk should accompany the name of operating system (Mac or Windows), the name and version of the word-processing program, and the names of the fonts used in the text.

The copyright to articles and reviews published in The Eastern Buddhist belongs to the journal. Requests for permission to reprint or reproduce should be made in writing and sent to: The Eastern Buddhist Society, Otani University, Kita-ku, Kyoto 603-8143, Japan
