The Journal of Early Modern History offers a broad audience of historians peer-reviewed explorations of different cultures on a given theme, whether in explicitly comparative studies, or by the grouping of studies (or books reviewed). Its coverage is broad, both geographically - Europe, the Americas, Asia - and in terms of subject matter. The book review section in each issue provides an up-to-date guide to the literature on early modern history in Europe, North America and throughout the rest of the world, as well as more extensive review articles.
Established in 1996, the Journal of Early Modern History: Contacts, Comparisons, Contrasts (JEMH) is now the official journal of the Center for Early Modern History. It is the first scholarly journal dedicated to the study of early modernity from a world-historical perspective, whether through explicitly comparative studies, or by the grouping of studies around a given thematic, chronological, or geographic frame. JEMH aims not so much for programmatic statements that claim to set research agendas, but for specialized research that bears explicitly on larger issues. The Journal was founded by Heiko A. Oberman (University of Arizona), James D. Tracy (University of Minnesota), and Antony Black (University of Dundee), in cooperation with E.J. Brill Academic Publishers. It is currently edited by Giancarlo Casale and Nabil Matar at the University of Minnesota and Simon Ditchfield at the University of York.
JEMH appears six times a year, and its editors invite submissions both of individual articles and of proposals for special editions (which may appear up to twice a year). For more information, consult the online "Instructions for Authors" page at brill.nl/jemh or contact the Journal at jemh@umn.edu
The Journal of Early Modern History is distributed by Brill and is available online at IngentaConnect
