Leviathan: A Journal of Melville Studies
Leviathan features a scholarly bounty of articles, notes, reviews, and creative writing of a critical, theoretical, cultural, or historical nature on the impressive body of work of American novelist and poet Herman Melville (1819-1891). Published under the aegis of The Melville Society--one of the oldest single-author societies in the United States--Leviathan includes a regular feature, “Extracts,” for sharing Melville Society transactions and programs as well as abstracts of papers delivered at its annual MLA and ALA panels. Leviathan also regularly publishes special issues, book reviews, interviews, and poems. Published three times a year in March, June, and October for the Melville Society.
Instructions to Authors Author Guidelines
We welcome essays and notes on the life, associates, works, reputation and influence of Herman Melville (1819–1891). Poetry is also accepted. Contributors should submit articles, following, MLA style . Queries may be sent to the Editor (John Bryant), Department of English, 124 Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY 11549-1240, or by e-mail to engjlb@hofstra.edu. Book reviews are assigned and edited by the Associate Editor (Samuel Otter), 232 Wheeler Hall, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720, and any inquiries or correspondence related to reviews may be directed to that individual (sotter@berkeley.edu).
Melville Society Extracts, formerly the Society's newsletter, now appears in each issue of Leviathan as a separate department, called Extracts. The department features cultural news, conference paper abstracts, keynote speeches, and reports regarding Melville- related programs and events. Queries may be directed to the Associate Editor.
