Instructions to Authors
It is essential that authors prepare their manuscripts according to established specifications. Failure to follow them may result in your paper being delayed. Therefore, contributors are strongly encouraged to read these instructions carefully before preparing a manuscript for submission, and to check the manuscript for compliance with these notes before submitting it for publication.
Submitting a Paper to Centaurus Centaurus uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (formerly known as Manuscript Central), the electronic editorial office run by ScholarOne. The new system brings with it a whole host of benefits including:
• Quick and easy submission • Administration centralized and reduced • Significant decrease in peer review times
Submissions to Centaurus should be made via the online electronic editorial office. Full instructions and a help facility are available at the Centaurus Manuscript Central™ site: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cnt.
Authors must also provide a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature - without this we are unable to publish the article.
General Guidelines Centaurus considers all English Language manuscripts on the strict condition that they have been submitted only to Centaurus, that they have not been published already, nor are they under consideration for publication or in press elsewhere.
Centaurus contains articles, book reviews and editorial communications. Articles must report original research and will be subjected to review by referees. In addition, the journal accepts short papers written in response to articles accepted for publication and runs a ‘focus section for contributions of current interest.
For all manuscripts non-discriminatory language is mandatory. Sexist or racist terms should not be used.
Guidelines for articles -Manuscripts should normally be no more than 12,000 words in length (including the Notes/Bibliography section)
-In response comments on full length manuscripts should be no longer than 2,500 words.
-Spotlight contributions will be commissioned and will normally be between 4-6,000 words.
-Book Reviews should be no more than 1,000 words in length. They are published on invitation only. The editors expect reviews to summarize the main ideas of the book, assess its quality, and note its contribution to the history of science. Reviewers are asked to formulate possible negative opinions in a professional, non-abusive manner. Reviewers agree not to publish a review of the same book elsewhere. We normally ask that reviews be submitted within two months of the reviewers receiving the book. If this is not possible, another deadline can be set in consultation with the book review editor.
Stylistic guidelines A comprehensive style guide for authors is available here. Please ensure that you familiarize yourself with this guide before writing for Centaurus. Failure to meet the journal style may mean that your manuscript is returned for revision by the editorial office before being peer reviewed.

Online production tracking is now available for your article through Wiley-Blackwell's Author Services. Author Services enables authors to track their article - once it has been accepted - through the production process to publication online and in print. Authors can check the status of their articles online and choose to receive automated e-mails at key stages of production. The author will receive an e-mail with a unique link that enables them to register and have their article automatically added to the system. Please ensure that a complete e-mail address is provided when submitting the manuscript. Visit here for more details on online production tracking and for a wealth of resources including FAQs and tips on article preparation, submission and more.
Pre-submission English-language editing Authors for whom English is a second language may choose to have their manuscript professionally edited before submission to improve the English. A list of independent suppliers of editing services can be found here. All services are paid for and arranged by the author, and use of one of these services does not guarantee acceptance or preference for publication.
Optimize your article for search engine rankings Many readers will use search engines when looking for journal articles, but readers will often not look past the first page of results. This is why at Centaurus we feel that it is important to help our authors to maximize their search engine rankings. There are some simple things that you can do to improve your article's ranking, and guidelines on these can be found here. Please review your title/abstract in the light of these and make any necessary changes as part of your final preparations.
