About the journal
Since its inception in the 1950s, Critique has consistently identified the most notable novelists of our time. In the pages of Critique appeared the first authoritative discussions of Bellow and Malamud in the '50s, Barth and Hawkes in the '60s, Pynchon, Elkin, Vonnegut, and Coover in the '70s; DeLillo, Atwood, Morrison, and García Márquez in the '80s; Auster, Amy Tan, David Foster Wallace, and Nurrudin Farah in the '90s; and Lorrie Moore and Mark Danielewski in the new century. Readers go to Critique for critical essays on new authors with emerging reputations.

Instructions to Authors
This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.
Aims and Scope: Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction is a peer-reviewed literary journal devoted to essays on contemporary fiction. The editors are also interested in critical essays on the fiction of significant emerging writers from any country.
Please note that Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction uses CrossCheck™ software to screen papers for unoriginal material. By submitting your paper to Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction you are agreeing to any necessary originality checks your paper may have to undergo during the peer review and production processes.
Submission Method: Authors must submit manuscripts for consideration electronically through Critique’s ScholarOne portal: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/crit . Submissions should include the author’s name and address, institutional affiliation, daytime telephone number, e-mail address, and a statement that the author has submitted only to Critique . Manuscripts must adhere to the rules regarding documentation set forth in the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing , 2nd ed. In-text parenthetical citation of quoted sources is the preferred style.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. As an author you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table or extract text from any other source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as "derivative reproduction" (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source).
Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- Sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color Illustrations. Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if Print + Online Reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color Print + Online Reproduction are: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi will not be considered for print. There is no cost for Online Only Reproduction .
Tables and Figures. Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.
Proofs. Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis’ Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt.
Reprints and Issues. Authors from whom we receive a valid email address will be given an opportunity to purchase reprints of individual articles, or copies of the complete print issue. These authors will also be given complimentary access to their final article on Taylor & Francis Online .
