About the journal
Luso-Brazilian Review publishes interdisciplinary scholarship on Portuguese, Brazilian, and Lusophone African cultures, with special emphasis on scholarly works in literature, history, and the social sciences. Each issue of the Luso-Brazilian Review includes articles and book reviews, which may be written in either English or Portuguese.
Instructions to Authors
For articles, authors should submit one hard copy of their manuscript, double-spaced (including notes, bibliography, and citations) and printed on only one side of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Submissions of a manuscript will be understood as an avowal that it presents original work not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The author's name and initials may not appear either in headers or footers, or on the first or last page of the manuscript. Rather, a letter or cover sheet that provides the author's mailing and e-mail addresses, as well as the title of the submission must accompany the manuscript. Submissions are accepted in either English or Portuguese, but should include an abstract written in the other language (i.e., manuscript in Portuguese, abstract in English). It will be assumed that the author has retained a copy of the manuscript. Submissions should be made both in hard copy and electronically. One hard copy should be mailed to the address below, and one electronic copy emailed directly to the LBR or mailed on CD. Accepted manuscripts typically range from 5,000-8,000 words. All manuscripts should be formatted in MLA or Chicago style and use end-notes rather than footnotes.
All book reviews are solicited by the editors and should be submitted in electronic format. The length of book reviews is typically 750-1250 words; reviews must included both the author's name and the full citation of the book being reviewed. Unsolicited reviews are considered only with the prior approval of the editors.
For illustrations, please read our Artwork Preparation Guidelines.
