Instructions to Authors
The Journal of the Historical Society accepts manuscripts written in English. In the interest of conserving resources, manuscripts may be submitted via email attachment: please address your submission (formatted in Microsoft Word for an IBM PC-compatible computer) to historic@bu.edu, with “Journal” as the subject heading. Otherwise manuscripts may be submitted, in triplicate and additionally on a computer disk, by mail to the address listed below. The Journal uses footnotes and we encourage authors to combine notes at the ends of paragraphs whenever possible. Please number the pages and double-space the text, including footnotes. No simultaneous submissions will be accepted. All manuscripts should be written in accordance with Chicago Manual of Style (15th Edition). Any style questions can be answered by reference to the Chicago Manual of Style or by contacting the editorial office.
Once received, the manuscript will be sent out for double-blind, peer review. The process usually takes eight to ten weeks. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the author will be required to make revisions in response to comments from reviewers and the editor. Authors will then resubmit the manuscript on disk or CD. The article will be edited and sent back to the author for final changes and approval. At this stage, no substantial changes are possible.
Address submissions and all correspondence about editorial content to historic@bu.edu, or to George Huppert, Editor, The Journal of the Historical Society, The Historical Society, 656 Beacon Street, Mezzanine, Boston, MA 02215-2010.
Authors will be required to assign copyright in their paper. Copyright assignment is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless copyright has been assigned. To assist authors an appropriate Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) can be found at the following site: www.wiley.com/go/ctabus
Kindly return the CTA to:

NEW: Online production tracking is now available for your article through Wiley-Blackwell’s Author Services.
Author Services enables authors to track their article – once it has been accepted – through the production process to publication online and in print. Authors can check the status of their articles online and choose to receive automated e-mails at key stages of production. The author will receive an e-mail with a unique link that enables them to register and have their article automatically added to the system. Please ensure that a complete e-mail address is provided when submitting the manuscript. Visit http://authorservices.wiley.com/bauthor for more details on online production tracking and for a wealth of resources including FAQs and tips on article preparation, submission and more.
