NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS
CSSH welcomes submissions. Essays should be written in such a way that
complex issues are made intelligible and appealing to erudite readers who are
not specialists in the subject under investigation. The editors prefer that essays
be concise and not over 12,000 words, including notes and bibliography.
Authors are also required to attach an abstract of no more than 250 words in
length, including a concise description of their hypothesis, methodology, key
sources, and conclusions.
The editors ask that submissions be presented in a manner that facilitates the
work of editing. Please submit two typed copies of your work together with
an electronic version on a 3.5-inch diskette or CD, or by email attachment to:
hist-cssh@umich.edu (Microsoft Word is the preferred software). The Journal
uses Windows-based PCs exclusively: Materials formatted for Macintosh,
Linux, or other operating systems will only be accepted by prior arrangement.
The work should be printed in 12-point type and double-spaced throughout,
including quotations, notes, and bibliography. Please allow generous margins
of an inch or more for editorial corrections. Photocopies of illustrations are
acceptable when first submitting an essay for review, but authors must supply
photographs or camera-ready copy and secure written permissions to reproduce
them when that essay is accepted for publication.
All submissions and editorial correspondence should be sent to
