About the journal
Aims and scope
Children's Literature in Education is today's foremost source for stimulating articles and interviews on noted children's authors, incisive critiques of classic and contemporary writing for young readers, and original articles describing successful classroom reading projects. In addition, the journal offers timely reviews on a variety of reading-related topics for teachers and teachers-in-training, librarians, writers, and interested parents.

Originally focusing on prose and fiction for readers ten years of age and older, Children's Literature in Education has grown to reflect the field's shifts in emphasis over the past quarter century. In response to the resurgence of interest in poetry, the journal expanded its coverage to include articles on children's poetry. The exciting innovations in picture books likewise inspired numerous articles examining this key literary form. Many of the journal's finest articles have explored the reading process, looking into ways of enhancing the satisfaction of young readers.

Notes for Contributors

Children's Literature in Education is an international forum for the publication of original peerreviewed/refereed articles of interest to librarians, teachers, students, writers, and interested parents. The journal seeks to promote lively discussion of poetry and prose for children and young adults and to heighten professional awareness and understanding of this literature and its use. The Editors welcome critical evaluation of individual authors or single works, analysis or commentary on social issues reflected in books, interviews with or articles by authors and illustrators, accounts of classroom practice and experience, and examinations of the reading process and its developmental role in childhood and adolescence.

Manuscripts should be original and not previously published. Manuscripts not accepted for publication can be returned only if accompanied by a self
addressed, stamped envelope.

Preparation of Manuscripts

Manuscripts, including references and footnotes, should be typed on doublespaced 81/2 x 11in. bond paper or equivalent. Two copies should be submitted. The title page should include title, author's name, and address for correspondence and proofs. The author's name should not appear on the other pages of the manuscript. An abstract is to be provided, preferably no longer than 100 words. A list of 3−−5 key words is to be provided directly below the abstract. Key words should express the precise content of the manuscript, as they are used for indexing purposes.

References and their Citation.

Works discussed are identified at first citation by marginal notes prepared by the publisher. To facilitate this task, authors are asked to submit a separate sequentially numbered list (author and title only) of works cited and to suggest placement of the marginal note by penciling the corresponding number in the margin of the text where the note should appear. To provide the reader with complete bibliographical information, works cited should be listed alphabetically by author under "References" at the end of the paper, according to the following style:

After a manuscript has been accepted for publication and after all revisions have been incorporated, manuscripts should be submitted to the Editor's Office as hard copy accompanied by electronic files on disk. Label the disk with identifying information
−− software, journal name, and first author's last name. The disk must be the one from which the accompanying manuscript (finalized version) was printed out. The Editor's Office cannot accept a disk without its accompanying, matching hardcopy manuscript.
