Instructions to Authors

World Englishes has now adopted ScholarOne Manuscripts for online manuscript submission and peer review. From now on all submissions to the journal must be submitted online at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/weng. Full instructions and support are available on the site and a user ID and password can be obtained on the first visit. If you require assistance then click the Get Help Now link which appears at the top right of every ScholarOne Manuscripts page. If you cannot submit online, please contact Jill Hallett, Assistant Editor, by e-mail at jillh@illinois.edu.

Book Reviews: Publishers with books to be considered for review should contact the Review Editor, Suzanne K. Hilgendorf, for instructions at: Suzanne_Hilgendorf@sfu.ca.

Authors of book reviews are normally selected by invitation, and unsolicited book reviews are not accepted.

1. Manuscript preparation: All manuscript pages, including the abstract, notes and reference list, should be typed double-spaced with margins of a least 2.5 cm (1 inch) on all four sides.

2. The abstract (between 150 and 200 words) should succinctly present the content of the research paper and be double-spaced on a separate page. The abstract should not duplicate a paragraph at the beginning of the paper.

3.Technical terms and specialized jargon should be avoided, or such terms should be clearly defined since the expected readers of WE include scholars in several areas related to English studies, and in interdisciplinary fields (e.g. stylistics, literary studies, language teaching).

4. Cited sources and quotations. References to cited sources are to be incorporated within the text. Include page numbers. Material quoted at length in the text should be double-spaced and indented.

5. Notes and references, in that order, should follow the body of text.

6. Format for blind review: Give the author's name, affiliation, and address on a separate page and delete any identifying information from all other manuscript pages. Also delete the author's name from running heads. This facilitates anonymous review by the panel of readers.

7. References: All references cited in the text should appear alphabetically at the end of each paper or review. Note: Authors' first names as well as last names are to be spelled out. Below are examples of entries for, respectively, a paper in an edited book, a journal paper, a book review, a paper presented at a meeting, and a book. Avoid abbreviations for journal titles.

8. Style: With the single exception that authors' first names are to be spelled out in the list of references (see above), the style guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA, 5th Edition, 2001), should be followed.

9. Readers: Names of the specialists consulted for the evaluation of papers, book reviews, and other material are listed periodically in an issue of the journal.

10. World Englishes commenced publication under its current title with Vol.4, No.2. Prior issues were published as World Language English with different aims and scope.

11. Inquiries: Questions about the submission process should be directed to Jill Hallett, WE Assistant Editor, at jillh@illinois.edu

12. Copyright Transfer Agreement: Authors will be required to sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) for all papers accepted for publication. Signature of the CTA is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless a signed form has been received. To assist authors an appropriate form will be supplied by the editorial office. Alternatively, authors may like to download a copy of the form here: http://media.wiley.com/assets/1540/90/ctabglobal.pdf Please return the signed form to Production Editor: Yana Zykova, Wiley-Blackwell, 101 George Street, Edinburgh, EH2 3ES, UK (a fax to + 44 (0) 131 226 3803 is acceptable, but the original must follow within 7 days).

13. Wiley's Author Services: Wiley's Author Services technology enables authors to track the production status of their accepted articles. Additionally, it offers authors free access to their published articles online and the ability to nominate up to ten colleagues for free access to the article. To find out more about Wiley's Author Services please visit http://authorservices.wiley.com
