Editorial policy The Linguistica Uralica publishes peer-reviewed primary research papers in the English, German, Russian and French languages. Papers dealing with any aspect of Uralic (Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic) linguistics are welcome on fully international basis. All scientific papers to be published in the Journal are reviewed internationally. It is published quarterly (in March, June, September and December), and all articles are provided with short English, German, Russian or French summaries. Papers dealing with any aspect of Uralic (Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic) linguistics are welcome on fully international basis.The manuscripts submitted should meet the following requirements. The title should be concise but informative. The arrangement of words is important for indexing purposes. A short running title should be provided. The abstract (approximately 100 words) should be a self-contained summary of the paper, presenting concisely the objectives of the work reported, methodology, results, and conclusions. Citations in the abstract should be avoided. The abstract should be followed by key words (max seven). The manuscript should include also a summary in English, German or Russian, and address(es), and e-mail address(es), and telephone numbers of the author(s). The volume of the manuscript (incl. references, summaries, illustrations, and tables) is preferably no more than 25–30 double-spaced pages. Copyright Papers accepted become the copyright of the Estonian Academy Publishers (Eesti Teaduste Akadeemia). The authors and their employers retain full rights to reuse their material for their own purposes. Submission An electronic version and two hard copies of the manuscript should be submitted along with the covering letter. The files and the printouts must correspond exactly to one another. The text should be printed on one side of the paper, double-spaced on sheets of uniform size, with a 3 cm margin at the left. It is not necessary to incorporate any special page layout in the manuscript. Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc) or rich text format (.rtf), and in PDF (.pdf). For fully electronic submission consult the Editor. In the covering letter the authors should also supply full contact details (incl. e-mail addresses) for at least four individuals who may be appropriate reviewers for the manuscript. Language samples Samples of a standard language should, without exception, be presented following the orthography of that language, adding a translation into the language of the article (if necessary, providing glosses explicating the morphological composition of the linguistic expression). Dialect examples (similarly provided with a translation into the language of the article and, if necessary, with glosses explicating the morphological composition of the linguistic expression) of Finno-Ugric or Samoyed languages should without exception be presented using the Finno-Ugric phonetic transcription (FUPA), while dialect examples of other languages may also follow some other generally recognized transcription. Notation and abbreviations Notation must be clear, compact, and consistent with standard usage. All notations and abbreviations should be defined in the text. Avoid abbreviations in the title and abstract. Illustrations Illustrations should be prepared in their final format (that is no enlarging or reducing will be necessary) and to fit into the print area of the journal. The maximum size is that of one journal page (127 mm × 215 mm) or of one column (61,5 mm × 215 mm). All illustrations must be clearly numbered and provided with the title and the author(s) name on the reverse sides of the printouts. The appropriate place for each illustration in the text should be indicated in the margin. If necessary, the top of the figure should be indicated. All illustrations must have self-explanatory legends. The captions to illustrations should be listed separately. The text, tables, and illustrations should not repeat one another. Dense shading for background should be avoided. The lettering (upper- and lowercase letters, italic, bold) should follow the usage in the text. Different parts of a figure should be marked by lowercase letters in parentheses. The size of symbols and lettering should not be smaller than 1.5 mm. Illustrations should be provided in one of the following formats: Vector graphics: .ai (Adobe Illustrator) .eps (Encapsulated Post Script) Raster graphics (such as photographs or scanned line-art) .tif (Tagged Image Format, use LZW compression to significantly reduce file size) .psd (Adobe Photoshop) .jpg Mixed vector and raster graphics: .eps (Encapsulated Post Script) Make sure that any artwork is at the appropriate, minimum, resolution: 300 dpi for halftones and greyscale, 600 dpi for combinations (line art and halftones together), and 600 dpi for line art. Photographs should be submitted as clear black and white prints on glossy paper. Digital and scanned photographs should be saved as tif or eps or jpg files at a resolution of at least 300 dpi. References References to the literature cited should be indicated at the appropriate place in the text, using author(s)’ name(s) and year of publishing and page number(s), with a reference list in alphabetical order at the end of the paper. All references in this list should appear in the text and vice versa. The references in the Cyrillic script should be given separately from those in the Roman script. The original titles in the Roman, Cyrillic and Greek alphabet are to be retained.
