Aims & Scope
The Journal of Israeli History is dedicated to the scholarly examination of issues and ideas in the history of Israel and the Zionist movement. The premier English-language source of cutting-edge scholarship on Israel's history, the journal is essential reading for scholars and students of international relations, Middle East Studies, and Jewish Studies. The journal features an interdisciplinary and comparative approach, reflecting Israeli historiography's increasing engagement with the social sciences and cultural studies. The journal fosters an ongoing dialogue between scholars from Israel and other countries, the expression of differing world views and beliefs, and evaluations of new methodologies. The Journal of Israeli History is a vibrant, lively periodical hosting continuing discussions on identity and memory, state and diaspora, relationships between gender, ethnicity and nationalism, and Middle Eastern politics and society.

Instructions to Authors
The Journal of Israeli History is a refereed journal. Articles submitted to the Journal should be original contributions, which are not being offered for publication elsewhere. If another version of the article is under consideration by another publication, or has been, or will be, published elsewhere, authors should clearly indicate this at the time of submission.
Manuscripts should be submitted in two copies, typed in double space, with the author's contact details on a separate cover sheet and any self-referencing material removed from the notes. Articles should not exceed 12,000 words, including notes, and should be accompanied by a 100-word abstract and a few keywords. They should be submitted to the Editors at the following address:

STYLE
Spelling: American spelling and punctuation should be used throughout. Dates should be given in the form 21 December 1999; 1994-98; the 1990s; the twentieth century.
Notes: The Journal follows The Chicago Manual of Style (Humanities). References should be given in shortened form in an endnote with a full version given in a list of references at the end of the article. Note reference numbers should appear as superior numerals following any punctuation marks (except the dash which they should precede).
The Notes should be given in abbreviated form as Name, Short title, pages:
Smith, Title of Book, 34.
Jones, "Title of Article," 948-50.
Ibid. should be used where possible, but should be avoided if the previous note contains more than one source.
The reference list should be given in alphabetical order, with the names of the authors inverted, using three-em dash for a repeated author or group of authors. Examples:
Jones, Tom. Title of Book. Place: Publisher, date.
——? ed. Title of Book. Place: Publisher, date.
Kelly, Ian. "Title of Article." Title of Journal 7, no. 6 (1990): 87-101.
Lewis, Mary, and Sally MacDonald. "Title of Article." In Title of Book, edited by John Smith. Place: Publisher, date.
Simpson, Jane. "Title of Dissertation." Ph.D. diss., Name of University, date.
Hebrew titles should be given in transliteration followed by the translation in parentheses.
