About the journal

ERYa7_kaanepilt

Kõigi mainitud alade teadlik arendamine on eesti keele hea käekäigu seisukohast ülioluline, mistõttu on tähtis julgustada autoreid nimetatud valdkondadega tegelema ja uurimistulemusi publitseerima.

Estonian Papers in Applied Linguistics, the official annual journal of the Estonian Association for Applied Linguistics, publishes articles that are expected to cover different fields of applied linguistics, with preference given to articles of theoretical interest. It is a peer-reviewed journal, maintaining an international focus, while at the same time encouraging articles on Estonian language, as well as Baltic and Nordic languages. It welcomes research articles, carried out in any theoretical framework, which show explicitly how local issues of language use, learning, teaching, computational linguistics, translation, or lexicographical matters exemplify more global concerns.

The journal is a unique regular publication focusing on applied linguistic issues in Estonia, as well as in the whole Baltic region, and Nordic countries. Its main goals are to encourage research that allows these languages to play a significant role in shaping current theoretical research.

The articles of the Estonian Papers in Applied Linguistics deal mainly with the Finno-Ugric and Baltic languages. The distinguished nature of these languages as well as the recent changes in the socio-linguistic situation often require new solutions in place of the traditions of applied linguistics developed on the basis of Indo-European languages.

Instructions to Authors

Kaastöö vormistamisel palume järgida vormistusjuhendit (allalaetav doc-fail), eriti mis puutub autorluse anonüümsusesse. Kaastöö maht on max 40 000 tähemärki (tühikuteta, koos kõigi lisadega).

Soovitame vormistusjuhendi alla laadida oma arvutisse ja vormistada kaastöö selle põhja peal. Failis on olemas stiililaadid kõigi vormistusnõuete täitmiseks (prefiksiga ERY-). Retsensendid arvustavad lisaks sisule ka vormistust.

Authors are asked to follow the Authors Guidelines (downloadable doc-file) to prepare their submission.

When downloading the Guidelines file into Your computer You will get the prepared template (with all needed ERY-prefixed styles) for following the technical demands to prepare Your manuscript. (The Reviewers are asked to check the technical side too.)

The length of the submission should be up to 6000 (35–40 000 characters  with no spaces), including special materials (e.g., tables, appendices), references, and resumé.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The material is normally submitted in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format and corresponding PDF files.

  3. Where available, URLs / DOIs for the references have been provided. Add the date of retrieval when referring to Internet-material, same for citing e-mails.
  4. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
Authors' biodata should be included on a separate sheet: title, authors' names, brief biographies, e-mail contact, and acknowledgements, if necessary.

  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Authors Guidelines.
  6. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL / DOI addresses).
All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, and should be clearly labelled with a number and caption (with NO full stop at the end of the caption). Note that captions should be placed differently: above the tables, but below the figures.
  7. The paper starts, after its title, with an abstract of approximately 200 words, headed "Abstract", and a list of keywords, headed "Keywords".
  8. The text of the paper should be structured in sections, decimally hierarchically numbered (i.e., 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, etc). No more than three levels of numbering should be used. Each section should bear a section title. The section numbering does not cover the Abstract and starts with the first section of the main text of the paper. References and Appendices are not numbered sections.

  9. Notes must appear as footnotes rather than endnotes. They are identified by consecutive superscript Arabic numbering. Please avoid excessive use of notes.
  10. Linguistic example sentences and formulas should be numbered on the left start of the line for cross reference by Arabic numbers enclosed in round brackets.
Linguistic example sentences from languages other than text of the paper must be accompanied by a literal word-by-word gloss as well as an translation.
For abbreviations, the authors are asked to use Leipzig Glossing Rules and List of Standard Abbreviations. Also the Childes Codes for Grammatical Morphemes are accepted.

  11. Full bibliographical references must appear under the heading "References" at the very end of the paper, alphabetically ordered by author's surname and chronologically ordered per author.
Each reference takes the form of surname of author, first name of author [middle initial], year of publication (in case of more than one publication per year, add small letters to the year), for books: title, publisher, place of publication; for journal papers: title of paper, name of journal, volume number, issue number in round brackets, page numbers; for papers in collections: title of paper, editor's name, (Ed.), title of collection, place of publication, publisher, page numbers; for unpublished theses: title of thesis, type of thesis, name of department, name of university, place.
The examples are given in Authors Guidelines.
