The Journal of Islamic Studies is a multi-disciplinary publication dedicated to the scholarly study of all aspects of Islam and of the Islamic world. Particular attention is paid to works dealing with history, geography, political science, economics, anthropology, sociology, law, literature, religion, philosophy, international relations, environmental and developmental issues, as well as ethical questions related to scientific research. The Journal seeks to place Islam and the Islamic tradition as its central focus of academic inquiry and to encourage comprehensive consideration of its many facets; to provide a forum for the study of Islam and Muslim societies in their global context; to encourage interdisciplinary studies of the Islamic world that are crossnational and comparative; to promote the diffusion, exchange and discussion of research findings; and to encourage interaction among academics from various traditions of learning.

Typescripts must be in English and should not exceed 10,000 words. Authors should not submit manuscripts that are under consideration for publication elsewhere. All typescripts will be assessed by academic referees. Authors are invited to submit contributions electronically as email attachments or on disk. Typescripts employing diacritics for transliteration should be submitted in hard copy as well, with an indication of the software used. Authors should reserve one complete copy of their typescript, as hard copies will not be returned in the event that an article is not accepted.
2. PREPARATION OF TYPESCRIPTPlease provide a title page indicating the article title, author's full name (in the form preferred for publication), and author's affiliation (including mailing address and email address). Typescript pages should be numbered consecutively. Spelling, capitalization, and punctuation must be consistent within each article.

4. TABLESTables should be comprehensible without reference to the text. Type each on a separate sheet and indicate the approximate position in the text with a marginal note.
5. PROOFSAll articles accepted for publication will be copy-edited and proofread. Copy-edited typescripts of articles and reviews will be sent to authors; this represents the final opportunity for authors to make corrections or amendments to their work, as proofs are not circulated to authors.

Cited unpublished material should have full location reference. Book reviews do not have footnotes.
8. COPYRIGHTIt is a condition of publication in the Journal that authors grant an exclusive licence to the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. This ensures that requests from third parties to reproduce articles are handled efficiently and consistently, and will allow the article to be as widely disseminated as possible. In assigning copyright, authors may use their own material in other publications provided that the Journal is acknowledged as the original place of publication and Oxford University Press is notified in writing and in advance.
9. OFFPRINTSAuthors will receive twenty-five offprints of each article free of charge, as well as free access to the online version of their article. Authors may buy further offprints at reasonable prices. An order form and scale of charges will be sent with each proof.
