Aims and scope

Founded in 1997, the International Journal of Hindu Studies is committed to publishing excellent scholarship on well-established topics in Hindu Studies, to fostering new work in neglected areas, and to stimulating alternative perspectives as well as exchange of information on a wide range of issues. The Journal supports critical inquiry, hermeneutical interpretive proposals, and historical investigation into all aspects of Hindu traditions.

While committed to publishing articles that will advance scholarship in any discipline relevant to Hindu Studies, the Journal is especially interested in areas of research that have cross-disciplinary relevance or new implications for this emerging field of scholarly interest. Submissions of a comparative or theoretical nature in every discipline in the humanities and social sciences will receive serious and respectful consideration. Each submission to the Journal will receive double-blind review.

Instructions to Authors

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts should be submitted to:
Journal editor
Professor Dr Sushil Mittal
mittalsx@jmu.edu

http://www.editorialmanager.com/hins

General Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts should be typed in a 12 pt. font and double-spaced on one side of plain paper, with wide margins to allow for editorial notes and instructions to the printer. Equations and symbols should be typed if possible; in any case, clarity is essential. The first page of the manuscript should contain the article title and if necessary a running head (condensed title) which should not exceed 45 characters, including spaces. Each page of the manuscript should be consecutively numbered, including pages of
references and captions.
International Journal of Hindu Studies follows a double-blind reviewing procedure. Authors are therefore requested not
to include their name or affiliation in their submitted papers. Self-identifying citations and references in the article text should be avoided. Authors should thus make sure that their names and/or affiliations are NOT mentioned on any of the manuscript pages. If authors do include their names on submitted papers, anonymous reviewing cannot be guaranteed.
Symbols: Unusual symbols should be identified in the margin, and an alternative or equivalent symbol or sign should be provided if the one required is rare. Special care should be taken to distinguish between the letter O and zero, the letter l and the number one, kappa and K, mu and u, nu and v, eta and n. Subscripts and superscripts should be marked if not clear. The use of italics is to be indicated by single underlining; bold-face by wavy underlining.
Notes: Notes which do not belong to the head of the article should be numbered consecutively. They should be placed at the end of the article, not as footnotes. A note which refers to the head of the article should be indicated by an asterisk.
Quotation Marks: Direct quotations appear within double quotation marks, except when a smaller typeface is used for extensive quotations. Single quotation marks are used for words or phrases under discussion, and for expressions used in a technical sense.
References: References should be listed at the end of the article in alphabetical and chronological order. A journal reference should comprise name, initials, year of publication, full title of paper, name of journal, volume number, and first and last pages. A book reference should comprise name, initials, year, full title, publisher, place of publication, and page. In the text, references to an article by more than two authors should be by the first name and `et al.'; but the authors' names should all be given in the
References section.
Proofs: Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author by e-mail (if no e-mail address is available or appears to be out of order, proofs will be sent by regular mail). Your response, with or without corrections, should be sent within 72 hours. Please do not make any corrections to the PDF file. Minor corrections (+/- 10) should be sent as an e-mail attachment to: proofscorrection@springersbm.com. Always quote the four-letter journal code and article number and the DO No. from your proof in the subject field of your e-mail.
Extensive corrections must be clearly marked on a printout of the PDF file and should be sent by firstclass mail (airmail overseas).
Offprints: Twenty-five offprints of each article will be provided free of charge. Additional offprints (both hard copies and PDF files) can be ordered by means of an offprint order form supplied with the proofs.
No page charges are levied on authors or their institutions.
Consent to publish in this journal entails the author's irrevocable and exclusive authorization of the publisher to collect any sums or considerations for copying or reproduction payable by third parties (as mentioned in article 17, paragraph 2, of the Dutch Copyright Act of 1912 and in the Royal Decree of June 20, 1974 (S.351) pursuant to article 16b of the Dutch Copyright Act of 1912) and/or to act in or out of court in connection herewith.

Springer Open Choice

In addition to the normal publication process (whereby an article is submitted to the journal and access to that article is granted to customers who have purchased a subscription), Springer now provides an alternative publishing option: Springer Open Choice. A Springer Open Choice article receives all the benefits of a regular subscription-based article, but in addition is made available publicly through
Springers online platform SpringerLink. To publish via Springer Open Choice, upon acceptance please visit www.springeronline.com/openchoice to complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information. Payment must be received in full before publication or articles will publish as regular subscription-model articles. We regret that Springer Open Choice cannot be ordered for published articles
