About the journal
European Journal of Science and Theology is an international journal that accepts for publication reviewed original papers, short communications, reviews and conference proceedings on a broad range of topics of interest for both scientists and theologians working mainly in the area of Science & Theology.
The aim of the journal is to serve the theological community with information provided and arranged to help them better understand the new scientific discoveries and studies that may be connected by their relevance to their own field or in associated fields. On the other hand, the interested scientists may find here new insights or a more profound attempt of understanding of the results of their research work. EJST also reflect ethical, environmental and societal implications of the work performed by scientists and technologists, intending to contribute actively to European and international debates on these issues.
The journal will also provide students and newcomers in the field of Science & Theology, a basic tool with which to learn its fundamental and possible applied aspects.
Another aim of EJST is to foster the exchange of ideas among the many disciplines involved in the process of the restoration and conservation of religious artefacts. The journal presents updates of scientific and applied technical research in different fields connected to the conservation and restoration but also wants to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology between the factors interested in this activity.
With regard to the theological task, European Journal of Science and Theology will deal mainly with the Christian viewpoints, but multi-religious reflections will also be accepted for analysis.
Instructions to Authors
1. General information
Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published before (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture, review, or thesis); that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well. Papers, books for review, offers to review, suggestions and commercials (advertising) should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief. All papers will be published in English. Non-English speaking authors should seek the advice of a professional language expert or an English speaker to help translate the paper.
2. Legal requirements
The author(s) guarantee(s) that the manuscript is/will not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright holders, that the rights of third parties will not be violated, and that the publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation. Authors wishing to include figures or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright holder(s) and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors. The author(s) are encouraged to transfer the copyright of the article to the publisher upon acceptance of an article by the journal, using the Authors' Warranty and Assignment of Copyright agreement. This transfer enables the Editor to reproduce, store in a retrieval system (including Internet), or transmit, in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording, scanning or otherwise, the paper, without any written permission of the author(s).
Whilst every effort is made by the publishers and Editorial Board to see that no inaccurate or misleading data, opinion or statement appears in this journal, they wish to make it clear that the data and opinions appearing in the articles and advertisements herein are the sole responsibility of the contributor or advertiser concerned and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Editorial Board or the policy of the publishers. Accordingly, the publishers, the Editorial Board, editors and their respective employees, officers and agents accept no responsibility or liability whatsoever for the consequences of any such inaccurate or misleading data, opinion or statement.
3. Editorial procedure
The journal publishes Original Papers, Short Communications, Reviews and conference proceedings. Advertising is also accepted with contractual payment forms. Manuscripts, accompanied by a covering letter stating the interest to readers within the scope of the journal, should be submitted in English, in 3 copies, and by e-mail (as attached Word files) to the Editor-in-Chief:
Dr. Iulian Rusu
European Journal of Science and Theology
OP10 CP2014, 700050, Iasi, Romania
e-mail: eurjscitheol@yahoo.com
Normally, a manuscript will be sent to two reviewers, a scientist and a theologian, for their opinion on its suitability for publication in EJST. The Editor-in-Chief will choose reviewers with advice of other editors. Authors are also invited to include the full address, e-mail address and fax numbers of two suggested reviewers, for consideration by the editor. Authors will be notified promptly about the acceptance of their contribution. In case where reviewers have significantly diverging opinions, an additional review will be obtained. In their basic review process, reviewers are asked to address the following questions:
· Are the new ideas, findings or developments clearly stated?
· Do these findings significantly advance the state of knowledge in the fields of Science & Theology or other connected domains?
· Is the paper written clearly and are the data and concepts logically presented?
· Do the references adequately cover the appropriate key publications in the field?
When the author is submitting a revised version of the manuscript we advise him to list the changes made in response to the referee’s remarks. The author should go through the reviewer comments and for each comment to mention whether he followed the suggestion or whether he disagrees and wish to respond to the comment.
In certain cases, manuscripts considered outside the aim of the journal or considered not to be of sufficient interest to readers will be returned to the author by the Editor-in-Chief without review. This does not necessarily reflect the quality of the manuscript, but only its suitability for publication in EJST.
The manuscripts and the figures will not normally be returned to authors. The author is responsible for the accuracy of the references. Only those contributions, which conform to the following instructions, can be accepted for publication. When the autor is submitting a revised version of the manuscript we advise him to list the changes made in response to the referee’s remarks. The author should go through the reviewer comments and for each comment to mention whether he followed the suggestion or whether he disagrees and wish to respond to the comment.
4. Manuscript preparation
Manuscripts should be concise, in 1.5 line spacing, and should have 2 cm all over margins. The text should be typewritten on one side of the paper only. The font should be Times New Roman of size 11 points. Black ink must be used. The numbering of chapters should be in decimal form.
Title page will contain:
• A concise and informative title (Times New Roman bold, all caps of size 14 points); the maximum length of the title should be 100 letters and spaces. The full name(s) of the author(s) (Times New Roman bold 12 points) should be written below the title. The affiliation(s) and complete postal address (es) of the author(s) will be provided immediately after the full name of the authors and will be written with Times New Roman 12 points. When the paper has more than one author, their name will be followed by a mark (Arabic numeral) as superscript; for the corresponding author, an asterix will be added. The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author must to be provided in the footer of the first page.
• Abstract: each paper must be preceded by an abstract (Times New Roman 10 points) presenting the most important results and conclusions in no more than 300 words.
• Key words: three to five key words (Times New Roman 9 points) should be supplied after the Abstract for indexing purposes.
Generally, the text of the paper (Times New Roman 11 points) should be divided into: Introduction, Experimental (if appropriate), Results, Discussion (may be combined with results), Conclusions, Acknowledgement and References. For certain articles the Experimental part can be replaced by Case-studies presentation. Depending on the specific of the article the text could be structured differently in order to be more relevant to the reader.
Formulae, symbols and abbreviations:
Formulae will be typeset in Italics and should be written or marked for such in the manuscript, unless they require a different styling. The formulae should be quoted on the right side, between brackets. The more complex Chemical Formulae should be presented as Figures. Abbreviations should be defined when first mentioned in the abstract and again in the main body of the text and used consistently thereafter. International System units must be used throughout. Footnotes should be avoided.
References:
The list of References (Times New Roman 10 points) should include only works that are cited in the text. Authors should as far as possible cite available fully published works. Papers that have been accepted for publication should be included in the list of references with the name of the journal and the specification "in press". Journal titles must be abbreviated in accordance with international practice. References should be numbered in order of their appearance in the text, cited by numbers in square brackets and listed at the end of the paper in the following form:
· Books:
G. Amdahl, Time-Sharing Computer Systems, in Computers and the world of the future, M. Greenberg (ed.), 3rd edn., The M.I.T. Press, Massachusetts, 1966, 220.
· Symposium volumes:
J.M. Cormier, I. Rusu and N. Apostolescu, Hydrogen production via methane steam reforming. Plasma reactors vs. chemical reactors, Proc. of 15th Int. Symp. on Plasma Chemistry, International Plasma Chemistry Society, Orléans, 2001, 3295-3301.
· Journal papers:
J. Jervell, Harvard Theological Review, 64 (1971) 21.
· Patents:
P. Grant, Device for Elementary Analyses, 1989, USA Patent, No. 123456.
· Dissertations:
G. Moroi, Polyesterurethanic products with metallic ions, Doctoral Thesis, University “Al. I. Cuza”, Iaşi, 1999, 77.
Illustrations and Tables:
Figures, Tables, Formulae or any other illustrations should be included within the body of the text where necessary. The same data must not be presented in both tabular and diagrammatic form. With certain exceptions implied by the specific of the article, coloured illustrations are not accepted. Illustrations will be reduced to 75% of the original upon reproduction, so authors should check that everything would be legible after reduction. All illustrations should be provided in camera-ready form, suitable for reproduction, which may include reduction without retouching. Photographs, charts and diagrams are all to be referred to as Figure(s) and should be numbered consecutively, in the order to which they are referred. Figures may be inserted as black line drawings. They should be pasted on, rather than taped, since the latter results in unclear edges upon reproduction. Legends for tables should be printed above these and for figures below them.
5. Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author (mainly by e-mail) and should be returned within 48 hours of receipt. Corrections should be restricted to typesetting errors; any other changes may be charged to the author.
6. Page charge
There is no charge per printed page.
7. Reprints
Authors are provided with 10 reprints free of charge. Further supplies may be ordered on a reprint order form, which will be sent to the author from the Editor’s office.
