About the journal

Basic Information

ACTA LITERARIA is published twice a year by the Spanish Department of the Arts and Humanities Faculty of the Universidad de Concepción.

In contains works and essays related to literary theories, poetics, text analysis and literary criticism arising from investigations and studies coming from the university world of Chile, Latin America, the United States and other countries.

It is aimed at researchers, critics, writers, professors and readers in general in the areas of humanism and culture.

The abbreviation of its title is Acta lit., which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, headings and bibliographical references.

Instructions to Authors

Range and editorial policy

It contains works and essays related to literary theories, poetics, text analysis and literary criticism arising from investigations and studies coming from the university world of Chile, Latin America, the United States and other countries.

It is aimed at researchers, critics, writers, professors and readers in general in the areas of humanism and culture

System of refereeing and selection of articles. The articles received are submitted for consideration to the Editorial Board. In cases in which contradictory evaluations exist, members of the Advisory Board will be called on to resolve the problem. 

Form and preparation of manuscripts

ACTA LITERARIA publishes unpublished articles which are submitted for evaluation according to the indications in point 2 of the publication guidelines.

Works are accepted that could be included in the following sections of the Journal:

Articles, should have a maximum of 20 pages, including bibliographical references and abstracts (resúmenes) in Spanish and English.
Notes, should have a maximum of 10 pages.
1.  
Originals. Contributions to the journal should be double spaced on letter sized paper with 3 cm. margins on all sides in New Times Roman, 12 point. The following information should be included:
   
 

a)

Title of the work.
  b)
Name of the author(s).
  c)
Specialty, institution to which the author belongs, email address.
  d)
Resumen y palabras claves in Spanish.
  e)
Abstract y keywords in English.
   
1.1.  
Works should be sent in electronic format with the text typed in software Word for Windows (Extension RTF)
   
1.2.  

Citations and bibliographical references. Reference citations in the text and the final reference list should be presented in the format of the American Psychological Association (A.P.A.):

   
  a)
When the last name of the author forms part of the text narrative, only the year of publication is included in parenthesis.
Example: González (2001) studied the relationship between…
   
  b)
When the last name and the date of publication do not form part of the text narrative both elements, separated by a comma, are included in parentheses.
Example: The study of the relationship between politics and language (González, 2001) opened up a new perspective.
   
  c)
When the date and the last name form part of the sentence, parentheses are not used.
Example: In 2001 González studied the relationship between politics and language…
   
  d)
If there is more than one work/article by a single author that appears in the same year, citation will include a letter in sequential order following the year of publication.
Example: (González, 2001a, González, 2001b, etc.).
   
Bibliographical references in the final list should be in alphabetical order and year of publication in the case of more than one work by the same author.
   
Journals:
Last name of each author, first name, year of publication, title of work, name of the journal (in italics), volume, initial-final pages of the article.
Example: González, Manuel. (2000). Politics and language. Acta Literaria, 27, 21-26).
   
Books:
Last name of each author, first name(s), year of publication, title of book (in italics), edition, volume, chapter, city where it was published, name of the publisher.
Example: González, Manuel. (2001). Theory of the Sign (2ª edic, vol II). Concepción, Chile: University of Concepción.
   
All of the citations in the text of the work should appear in the final reference list and those in the final list should appear in the text.

System of refereeing and selection of articles. The articles that are received will be submitted for consideration to the Editorial Board. In conflictive cases where contradictory evaluations exist, members of the Advisory Board will be called on to resolve the problem.

Author notification. The reception of the work will be notified and, later, if the work has been selected by the Editorial Board for publication.
   
4.  
Order of publication of the works. The order of publication for articles is up to the criteria of the Director.
