Western Humanities Review has been in continuous publication since 1947 and has featured work by some of America's most distinct voices: Wallace Stegner, Robert Oppenheimer, Ursula Le Guin, Raymond Carver and many more.
We continue to seek fresh and original works of fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction and literary scholarship. Work first published in the WHR has been reprinted or cited in the Pushcart Prize Anthology, the O. Henry Prize, Best American Short Stories, Essays, and Poetry.
Submissions
?nbsp; Western Humanities Review expects the standard format for fiction or essays: typed , double-spaced, author's name and title on the first page. Poetry should be single-spaced. Articles should use MLA format guidelines. We prefer endnotes to footnotes.
?nbsp; Submit only one story or essay, or three to five poems at a time. (There is no need to query--send your entire work directly.)
?nbsp; Each manuscript must be accompanied by an SASE for response and return. Submissions received without SASE will be rejected without notice.
?No faxed or emailed submissions.
?nbsp; Editors will consider simultaneous submissions, but expect to be informed. Authors must notify editors immediately of simultaneously submitted work accepted elsewhere.
?nbsp; We read submissions between September 1st and May 1st only. Submissions during the summer will be returned unread.
?nbsp; Contributors receive two copies of the issue in which their work appears, as well as a small honorarium ($5 per printed page).
?nbsp; Any questions about the status of your work should be sent to whr@mail.hum.utah.edu . Please allow 4-6 months for a response.
